Meeting Summary:

Hearing protector fit check systems have been in use for quite a few years. This presentation will briefly discuss each of the systems that are currently available and the challenges in using any of them effectively in the workplace.


Presenter:

James J. Jerome, Occupational Audiologist, has over forty-one years of experience in the field of Audiology.  He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army in 1998, devoting twenty-one years to clinical audiology and hearing conservation.  From 1998 to 2002, he was an Occupational Audiologist with the Indianapolis office of Health & Hygiene (later U.S. HealthWorks).  From 2002 to 2006, Jim was President of Hearing Safety- Midwest, Inc, in Indianapolis, Indiana, a hearing conservation consulting and service firm.  Since January 2007, he has become a member of and currently consults for Workplace INTEGRA out of their Indianapolis office.  As a military audiologist, Jim received the 1995 Military Audiology Association’s Founder’s Award for outstanding audiologist of the year.  He has been a certified member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) since 1975, a certified hearing conservation course director with the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) since 1985, and a member of National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA) since 1999.  CAOHC recognized Jim as one of the most active Course Directors in the nation since 2003.  Within NHCA he is a frequent presenter and has served in various positions over the years.  In 2012 and 2015, he was Program Chair for their annual conference, and in 2016, he was president of the association.  Jim graduated with a baccalaureate degree in speech pathology from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee (1971) and with a masters degree in audiology from Western Illinois University (1973).  He has been married to his wife, Ellen since 1974 and has two children: Nathan and Megan.
