Meeting Summary:

The presenters will discuss the ecology of Opportunistic Premise Plumbing Pathogens (OPPP) such as Legionella sp. and the importance of Water Management Programs in reducing the risk of these pathogens in building water systems.


Presenters:

Shivi Selvaratnam joined Weas Engineering in 2016 as the Senior Microbiologist and currently serves as the Lab Director. Shivi graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in biology from Monmouth College, IL and a Ph.D. in microbiology from Drexel University, PA. She completed her post-doctoral studies at the University of Notre Dame, IN.  She worked in academia for seven years as an Assistant Professor of Biology where she taught courses in microbiology and conducted research on the effects of pollutants on microbial communities in freshwater ecosystems.  Prior to joining Weas Engineering, Shivi worked as a Technical Environmental Specialist at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.  Dr. Selvaratnam is the author of numerous publications, invited presentations, and research grants.

William Fitzgerald is a Water Safety Manager for the Water Safety Group, an independent business group of Weas Engineering.  The Water Safety Group is a group of subject matter experts dedicated to the mission to prevent harm from waterborne pathogens such as Legionella, HPC, Mycobacteria and Pseudomonas associated with building water systems in compliance with ASHRAE 188 & CMS S&C 17-30. William has more than 6 years of experience regarding risk reduction strategies related to water and air hygiene.  William has a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University as well as certification as an NSF HACCP Manager.

 

Due to space constraints, registration will be limited to 20 individuals.
