Meeting Summary:

On behalf of the WEEL Committee, Courtney Callis will present an overview of occupational risk assessment to illustrate how occupational exposure limits are derived. This presentation is typically included in a four-day intensive “boot camp” that provides hands-on training in the basics of toxicology, toxicokinetics, hazard characterization, dose-response assessment, and risk characterization. The overview will touch on hazard characterization, dose-response assessment, and risk characterization.

Presenter:

Courtney Callis is a research scientist who has worked as a toxicologist in risk assessment within Lilly Research Laboratories at Eli Lilly and Company for 18 years. Ms. Callis holds a Bachelor’s of Science (BS) in Chemistry from the College of William and Mary and a Masters of Public Health (MPH) in Toxicology from the University of Michigan. She has been a Diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) since 2005.  Ms. Callis is a technical expert on human health risk assessment, including the evaluation of polymeric extractables and leachables, establishing acceptable daily exposure values for GMP cleaning validation, toxicology classifications for production facilities, and development of occupational exposure limits. Ms. Callis is a current member and past-chair of the Workplace Environmental Exposure Level (WEEL) Committee of the Occupational Alliance for Risk Science (OARS), a member of the USP Elemental Impurities Expert Panel, and a member of the Extractables Leachables Safety Information Exchange (ELSIE) Safety Working group.
