Indiana Local Section and NIOSH: A Partnership to Protect Young Workers

Speaker: Dr. Steven Lacey

Meeting Summary:

Approximately 80% of young people in the US work while in high school, and they are twice as likely to be injured compared to adult workers.  Over 58,000 workers under the age of 18 are sent to the emergency room for work-related injuries each year.  AIHA has partnered with NIOSH to help give young workers the skills and knowledge they need for healthy and safe work throughout their working lives.  Dr. Lacey will give a preview of the curriculum and its objectives, and proposed a strategy for our Indiana Local Section to lead in this national effort, impacting the health of Hoosiers and beyond.
