Speaker: Elliott H. Berger, MS, FAIHA
Meeting Summary:
We will tour 3M's E-A-RCAL, ESL (Electro-Acoustic Sound Laboratory), and Impulse Testing facilities. The E-A-RCAL facility includes a 113m3 reverberant test chamber with vanishingly low background noise levels, as well as state-of-the-art instrumentation for hearing protection measurements. The ESL chamber is designed for sound generation up to 125 dB SPL for evaluation of the performance of the electronic and military systems as well as for research into speech intelligibility of communication systems. The Impulse Lab is a 300m3 hemi-anechoic facility that allows generation of blasts up to 168 dB SPL to test level-dependent passive and active hearing protectors.
Due to space constraints registration will be limited to 20 individuals.
Presenter:
Elliott chairs the ANSI S12/WG11 Committee on Hearing Protectors, is a past chair of the AIHA Noise Committee, past president of the National Hearing Conservation Association, and is the principal editor of the highly regarded best-selling 4th and 5th editions of the American Industrial Hygiene Association Noise Manual.
