Exposure and Safety Considerations for Nanomaterials
Speaker: Dr. Candace Su-Jung Tsai, SC.D.
Meeting Summary:
Dr. Tsai will present on the topic of Nanomaterials, focusing on airborne exposures, and proper safety procedures.
Presenter:
Dr. Candace Su-Jung Tsai is an Assistant Professor in Industrial Hygiene at Purdue University. She received her Doctorate in Cleaner Production and Occupational Hygiene at U Mass Lowell. She also holds Masters Degrees in Chemical Engineering and Management Science and has work many years in the industry. Prior to her appointment at Purdue, Dr. Tsai, led the EHS research group at CHN, which has been on the forefront of nano-particle EHS research including, occupational and environmental exposures, the safe practices to be followed, and engineering control strategies to minimized exposures. Her publications including "Potential inhalation exposure and containment efficiency when using hoods for handling nanoparticles" and "Exposure Assessment and Engineering Control Approach to Airborne Nanoparticle: Emission from Nanocomposite Compounding" are the first such papers in the peer-reviewed literature. She currently serves as the executive officer of the Nanotechnology Working Group of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. She has been involved in many panels and committees and has been invited to give numerous seminars and conference keynote speeches both in the U.S. and overseas.
